The origin of babydoll was from the movie Baby Doll in 1956. From that movie, the name got hype. The movie starred Carroll Baker with the lead role of being a nymphet of 19 years old. This led to the start of the popularity of the style “babydoll” for young women. At the time of early and middle of 1990s the kinderwhore appearance led to the further popularity of this style because of the fame of grunge and riot Grrrl performers such as Kat Bjelland and Courtney Love. From then onwards, the dress has been used my majority of the women in summers and for nightwear. They prefer this dress because of it ease and comfortable look.

Babydoll is being widely adopted by the females as attire and is usually categorized as a king of lingerie. Babydoll dress for adults is different from the ones that are made for infants. They are more embellished with items like floral embroideries, laces and ruffles in the case of the former ones. While for the infants the style is funkier with vibrant colors and patterns.
